We hope that this letter finds you all well and healthy. Due to the effects of Covid-19, it is with great deliberation and thoughtful action that the First Special Service Force Board of Directors will be postponing the 2020 Calgary Reunion to 2021. This is the first time in the 73-year history of the Annual Reunion that something of this magnitude has derailed our plans. For the health and safety of our members and especially our venerable veterans, we chose to take these precautions so that we can gather again in friendship. So we will regroup, plan, and move forward as we, the Force and their descendants, know how.
There are still many details for us to work out, however, we urge you to check any travel accommodations you have made to redeem any travel vouchers or refunds that you can. If you have booked rooms at the Westin Calgary, please cancel them now to avoid any payments. Anyone who has submitted a registration will be contacted to either be given a refund or the option to roll the registration over to 2021.
Things that we do know:
The 73rd Reunion will be held in Calgary 2021 Dates of the reunion are TBD for 2021 and info will be sent out as soon as we have answers from discussing our options with the hotel. The Annual Business meeting will be held virtually in August or September 2020 Information on date, time, and service provider will be announced later.
To attend the Annual Business meeting, your membership will need to be up to date for 2020-2021. The fiscal year begins July 1st, 2020. Please visit fssf.aplos.org, download a copy from firstspecialserviceforce.net, or a membership form will be in the Summer Spearhead. If you are planning to attend this meeting and you have access to an email address, please make sure to email Tricia Hofeld at [email protected]. The reports and agenda for the meeting will need to be emailed to participants with the length of time in between the final board meeting of the year and the Annual meeting.
Most of our veterans, wives and widows are quarantined in their homes and living places. If you would like to send a little joy in the form of a card, children’s drawing, or letter, please email Tricia with questions on how to do that. Eventually, when this is all over, we can come together once again as the Force Family. Until then, please stay healthy and happy so we can cross our borders and give each other the biggest hugs.
Stay well and see you in 2021!
